Harry's blog extra - Week 1

G'day . . . I'm Harry, a part Bichon Frise (and a few other parts to keep me perky). This is my first dog-blog. My mate Jim saved me some years ago from the Wyong Pound and from then life began to get rosier for everyone, particularly for Jim and his partner, Val.

I have many heroes, most particularly, my mate Bichon Frise, Charlie, in Wigan, England, who took advantage of a fridge door being open and snaffled 20 pies being kept for the 2008 World Pie Eating Championship. Top work, Charlie!! I love my grub too! I have a nose for everything and enjoy my constitutional at 6:30 in the morning before settling in for a bit of house guarding for the rest of the day. I love Warringah, all its parks and trees. If a dog could vote (and we should) I'd put Jim at Number One!

Harry's blog extra - Week 2

I had a few runs down at Thomas Reserve and saw a few of my mates, including the rabbits, down at the western end. There are a few off-leash areas where I can really show my ahtletic skills to Jim and I htink the new Council has to give us more in this respect. It is all very well seeing Chase at the Allambie Heights Newsagency and having a roam around the Shopping Centre (on the lead of course), but there is nothing like open country. All for now and would like to hear from other canines.

Dear Harry, I was so excited to read your blog. I've been hoping to find another doggie I could have a chat with and finally I found one. I'm a 5 year old Tibetan Terrier. I came all the way from Perth. My real name is LuLu but my family love to call me LuLuBelle! Do you know anything about Tibetan Terriers? They are the holy dogs and dogs of the Dalai Lama. How exciting is it in your home with your owner running for council! I know a bit about your team because I know they love our community particularly Brookvale Oval. I have to admit I live with a family of crazy Manly supporters but I guess it could be worse. So anyone that looks after Brookvale Oval gets my vote. Also I love going for walkies - particularly around Long Reef so since your group is so interested in the environment then AGAIN you've got my vote. I have to give you a bit of a hint here - one of my mummy and daddy's pet (!) hates is people who have their doggies off the lead AND people that don't pick up their doggies poo poos. They think they should be thrown in jail as it makes them (as responsible dog owners) look bad. I think Jail is a bit drastic but anyway at this stage I would like to say that this policy makes no difference to me as I don't do PUBLIC!! Personally I like the privacy of my own back yard. I'd love to send you a photo of myself but I think my paws are too big and I'm not really sure how I can do it. My owners tell me I'm very pretty - in fact I'm mostly white as well - but not as curly as you. And I have some black on me - my family think I'm beautiful!
Anyway - what else do you like doing? Want to catch up for an early morning stroll followed by a puppachino? I hope I'm not sounding too forward and in case you're wondering - I don't lick on my first date!

The emperor has no clothes and Warringah has no crown. It's a harsh reality that a government doesn't have the right to govern, but that's the reality of the NSW constitution.

Warringah Council functions under the Local Government Act, so when Dick Persson decides that ‘Dogs and beaches don’t mix’, he shows blatant disregard to the obligations and overarching purpose of council.

Council is required by law to provide adequate and equitable services. More ratepayers have dogs than children; in fact it’s about 40% with dogs. Therefore, the place to start with beach access is 40% of beaches – this makes sense BY LAW.

Several candidates have declared the beaches the most valuable asset in Warringah – that adds weight to our argument that Warringah has been greatly remiss in provided equitable access to this asset.

Barking Mad will work with the new council – but not for ‘one’ dog beach, not for one area that we have to drive to, but for a fair-share of public space.

Please tell me where you Jim & Harry, stand on this matter and what promise you are willing to make to the numerous members of Barking Mad in Warringah?
Thank you,
Eedra Zey

Dear friendsofthedog.good to hear from you. We had another stretch at Thomas Reserve this evening and we saw 2 rabbits, but a bit too far off for interest. I was busy sniffing the ferns and admiring the excellent work that had been done along the creekline removing weeds. I did note that there seemed to be more soccer goal posts which were great to sniff!
I made some new friends this evening at about 6pm and it was nice to run across the park (on leash, of course). Jim liikes a run too.
Regards, Harry

Dear Lulubelle, I know nothing about Tibetan terriers but you look very appealing. I, too, am uncomfortable about humans who don't clean up after us. I tend to favour used plastic bread bags for this purpose (good recycling).
I only occasionally go to "off leash" areas but I am just as comfortable with the extendable leash and Jim follows my path on many occasions. He also enjoys the football at Brookvale, maybe there should be a canine Sea Eagles Support Group! The Bulldogs shouldn't have it all there own way and goodness knows where there are any Panthers.

I would be interested to know of how dogs can be better catered for in Warringah. Apparently there are approximately 25,000 dogs and cats in our area. I live with cats and we get on very well but they never go outdoors. I am able to run about the yard because I don't chase birds.
